As we celebrate this Christmas season, we are reminded that Christ’s arrival was part of God’s plan for greater peace and justice throughout the world. The prophet Isaiah declared: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6-7).
Even as violence, injustice, oppression, and inequality persist in our world today, we hold onto these glimpses of the future just peace that scripture promises. And we witness that future breaking into the present through the stories you’ll read in this newsletter—Quechua children learning with dignity in Peru’s mountains, pastors across Central America uniting to protect the vulnerable in El Salvador, and international volunteers supporting local peacebuilding efforts.
