In the midst of all the ugliness that takes place in our world, we know a beauty that is more precious than gold, sparkles more brightly than diamonds. “I wanted to be like any other girl, but I couldn’t.” The suffering that has marked Xiomara’s story is profound. She continues to shine brightly, a light for so many others in her community.

They become leaders raising their voice for those who have no voice, says Doris, of the local Paz y Esperanza (Peace and Hope) team who has decades of experience providing professional counseling to survivors. Today, Xiomara is one of those young leaders as the president of the local survivors network. She speaks with great conviction and wisdom beyond her years to local church, school and community leaders, as well as forums of regional and national authorities.
