After ten years of extraordinary privilege, I am writing to share some personal news.
Later this Spring, I will be stepping down as CEO & President of Peace and Hope International. This decision has grown out of much prayer and careful discernment over many months. I step forward with deep gratitude and a quiet confidence in the new season God is opening. I leave with a full heart and great confidence in what lies ahead for this organization.
When I think about what we have done together over these ten years, I am genuinely moved. This past year alone, PHI achieved its largest fundraising year in our history. We strengthened the Peace and Hope fellowship across Latin America, completed a new strategic plan that aligns with our theory of change, and published an impact report reflecting the work of thousands of people – survivors, peacemakers, legal advocates, counselors, and community leaders – whose lives have been transformed through your generosity. We’ve been preparing for leadership transition over the past 6 months, and the mission is as vital as ever.
In the coming weeks I will be sharing more, along with an introduction to PHI’s next director. I am truly excited for this transition and for all that lies ahead, confident that God is already preparing the way for continued and improved impact and growth.
My work for a just peace will continue through my responsibilities at Duke Divinity and the Center for Reconciliation. While my role at PHI is shifting, my dedication to this shared mission endures, and I look forward to encouraging and supporting our new leader in the season ahead.
Thank you for walking alongside me and alongside Peace and Hope. Your support has meant more to me than I can adequately express. God has allowed us to accomplish so much together—the encouragement and practical support offered to our local teams, the lives changed, the communities strengthened, the dignity restored—and this is a shared legacy for which we can give God all the glory. I remain profoundly grateful for your trust and for the faithfulness you have shown. Thank you for being a part of this.
With gratitude and hope,
Nina Balmaceda, PhD
CEO & President
