Restoration on The Farm

“When we take care of creation, the natural world, people discover God. When we destroy the earth, we actually destroy a channel through which people can know God,” Tamara commented this past week during the Peace and Hope team’s weekly devotionals in Tomaykichwa, Peru. What a powerful thought, brought on by the words of the Apostle Paul: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

The team was reflecting on our role as followers of Jesus in caring for creation, something Peace and Hope has prioritized as a part of our mission to confront and respond to violence. We find ways to do this wherever we are located, but none quite as unique as the Peace and Hope farm known as La Granja Lindero, nestled in a high mountain valley of the Andes. Since 2006 the Peace and Hope farm in Peru has been an inspiring example of what it can look like to care for God’s creation, while providing revenue for a shelter for young children and teens who are survivors of rape. This powerful ministry allows the beauty of creation to directly confront the ugliness of violence, and in doing so grows NEW LIFE—where survivors of violence begin to encounter a renewed hope. The restoration that takes place as youth interact with animals and fun farm activities adds to the healing process the team work to support, as Peace and Hope staff help survivors overcome serious trauma.

We invite you to also come and experience this beauty as well. With a small herd of dairy cows and hundreds of other animals, along with growing vegetables and fruit trees, there is always a lot to see and learn on the farm. In addition to the farming components of La Granja Lindero and working with survivors of violence, we also have a “farm-to-table” restaurant serving delicious Peruvian dishes unique to the region, soccer fields, volleyball courts and pavilions for day visitors to experience the beauty of God’s creation while enjoying the view of the mountains. For those who would enjoy a longer stay, we have comfortable lodging available. This is especially nice for those who are traveling a distance or looking for a refreshing retreat. Contact us today if you’re interested in learning more about lodging availability.

Your support can help make this unique aspect of our ministry possible. Whether it be through the purchase of delicious grass-fed dairy products, eating at the restaurant, staying with us for an extended visit, or sponsoring an animal on the farm, you make an powerful impact in the lives of others through peacebuilding efforts in Latin America. 70% of the revenue created by the farm goes to support Peace and Hope ministry projects in Peru. Join us in caring for creation, that more people may discover God and more deeply experience the life-giving restoration he offers.
